Massage in Lewes

What is massage?

Massage is a "hands-on" treatment in which the therapist manipulates muscles and other soft tissues of the body to improve health and well-being. Massage can range from gentle stroking and kneading of muscles and other soft tissues to deeper manual techniques.

It has been practiced as a healing therapy for centuries in nearly every culture around the world and it helps relieve muscle tension, reduces stress, and evokes feelings of calmness.

Although massage affects the body as a whole, it particularly influences the activity of the musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems.

What happens during a massage session?

After the initial consultation, the practitioner leaves the room for the client to get undressed (to their underwear) and cover themselves up with the towel provided. Some people find it helpful to listen to some gentle background music and others prefer silence.

During the session, the practitioner will uncover the areas that are being massaged and from time to time will check for comfort and appropriate pressure.  Follow up sessions If you have a specific injury, it is recommended to come for a succession of 4-6 weekly sessions.

If you suffer from chronic muscular tensions that have built up over years, it is recommended to come once a week, every other week or once a month, depending on the severity of your symptoms. Usually this is discussed with the massage therapist after the massage. Some people also come occasionally on a one-off basis in order to treat themselves.
